It was my dream that when I was ready to retire from teaching I could sell Ayam Cemani chickens and retire in style!
It takes a long time-almost six months before I got my first egg. Then I had an opossum stealing and eating the eggs. I would find them in the morning all hollow and chewed up.
It was another six months before I really got some chicks, most of them were not really great either-a toe would be white, or the tips of their wings. I am not the kind of person who can cull anything-so they all got to grow up and stay around-but they couldn’t be breeding stock.
